June 21st

Poem by Daniel Braun

It can’t be only me

Who on this day invariably

Will realize

That duration-wise

It’s all downhill for the days from here.

Whereas at the other end of the year

My thoughts are…not the opposite,

Come to think of it.

Not of how,

Beginning now,

The days are bound to inch their way

Back up that hill.

Rather of how so short a day

Can make you feel as though they never will.
