JOHN MILES FOLEY is Professor of Classical Studies and English, and Director of the Center for the Studies of Oral Tradition at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is editor of the journal Oral Tradition and has written or edited sixteen books, including How to Read an Oral Poem (University of Illinois Press, 2002).
